If you do not want to undertake the construction/expense of a new masonry fireplace and chimney, you may want to consider the advantages of either gas logs, a gas fireplace or a gas fireplace insert.

To learn more about the chimney sweeping process, view the video below.

Simply put, gas logs are not known for providing very much heat and are thought to be installed for decorative purposes. Given newer initiatives, today’s gas log options are more attractive, functional and realistic-looking than they have been in the past.

As to Gas Logs, we recommend Peterson logs both because of their attractive appearance and high quality craftsmanship. Peterson has a great record of quality assurance and is a leader in state of the art manufacturing equipment.

The versatile logs they provide allow the homeowner to burn natural gas or liquid propane in the home. These logs can be ignited manually or a variable flame remote. They also come with vent-free or vented log sets. An added benefit, environmentally, is that these Peterson logs release approx. 100 pounds less pollutants per year than wood burning.

Does the difference between Vent-Free and Vented gas logs confuse you?

Vented gas logs need a chimney to operate…whereas vent-fee gas logs do not require a chimney to vent. Vented logs are considered more aesthetic but not provide as much warmth. Vent-free logs do not give the effect of a burning fire but do provide some warmth with all of it staying inside the home. Vent-free logs are Not Allowed in bedrooms or bathrooms. Moreover, these need to be installed 36 inches or more from curtains, furniture or other flammable objects.

Please note that we can add additional sand and embers to your existing gas fireplace and make your gas logs look like new. You do not always have to buy new gas logs.

What is Fire Glass designed to do?

Fire glass can be used in a non-vented or vented fireplace and outdoor fire pits. You can use our fire glass indoors in vent-free fireplaces, but only when using vent-free approved burner system.

The Fire glass is designed for gas fire pits and gas fireplaces to tolerate high temperatures without melting, burning or discoloring when used as recommended. The glass does NOT create toxic fumes, smoke, ash, or soot. Fire Glass is used to replace gas logs and provides another aesthetic option for homeowners as to what to do with their fireplace.
