Why We Use HEPA Filters

HEPA filters are high-efficiency particulate air filters. We use them when we clean HVAC systems because they offer superior performance for removing particulate pollution, making the air you breathe indoors cleaner and healthier.

HEPA vacuums like the ones we use for HVAC cleaning are recommended for minimizing common allergens and pollutants that can contaminate indoor areas.

Your indoor air quality matters to us, and that's why we use HEPA filtered vacuum units to clean the air in your home. Curious about how HEPA filters work and why using one matters? Here's what you need to know about HEPA filters.

What does a HEPA filter do?

A type of mechanical air filter, HEPA filters force air through a fine mesh as we vacuum and recirculate air in your home. This mesh catches particulates that can pollute indoor air, including:

  • Bacteria

  • Dust mites

  • Mold

  • Pet dander

  • Pollen

  • Viruses

Using a HEPA filter, we can capture microbial contaminants and remove them from your HVAC system.

What are HEPA filter standards?

True HEPA filters are tested to meet exacting standards that ensure practically every particulate is removed from the air that filters through our vacuums.

They are dry, rigid framed filters made of either plastic or fiberglass with a minimum particle-collection efficiency of 99.97% for 0.3-micron particles of thermally generated dioctyl phthalate or specified alternate aerosol. The particle size is much smaller than we can see with the human eye. And with a 99.97% efficiency, no more than 0.03% of test aerosols can leak out. That’s less than three out of 10,000 ultra-tiny particles that can make it through.

Is a HEPA-type filter good enough?

A HEPA-type filter may be similar to a true HEPA filter, but it doesn’t meet the same standards. This type of filter might only capture 85% to 90% of particles, which captures a lot, but not nearly as much as a true HEPA filter.

You might decide a HEPA-type filter is good enough for a household vacuum. But we only use true HEPA filters on our professional HVAC vacuums so we can provide the highest standard in cleaning.

Why is using a HEPA filter important?

Using a HEPA filter offers the highest quality in filtration available. The very small particulates that other filters might miss will be captured by our HEPA vacuum, which offers the absolute best cleaning to minimize common allergens and particulates.

HEPA filtering is especially important if you suffer from allergies or respiratory conditions, but any home or business can benefit from the extremely high level of particulates trapped and removed from the air.
